WEF Reveals Tourism Development Index for 2023… Maintains Ranking Compared to 2019

, ‘The World Economic Forum has been announcing the Tourism Competitiveness Index every two years since 2007 to evaluate the travel and tourism competitiveness of countries and induce benchmarking among countries. In 2021, it expanded the evaluation areas to include the ‘sustainability of tourism’ field from the existing Tourism Competitiveness Index, and reorganized it as the Travel & Tourism Development Index.’,

, ‘Looking at South Korea’s rankings in each evaluation area, compared to 2019, the country’s ranking rose in 3 out of the 5 major areas, dropped by 1 level in 1 area, and maintained its ranking in 1 area. In particular, the ranking for ‘sustainability of tourism’ (49th to 16th) saw the biggest increase compared to 2019, and the country achieved high rankings in ‘tourism resources’ (15th) and ‘environmental quality’ (20th).’,

, ‘Examining the 17 detailed sub-categories, the ‘cultural resources’ category rose by one step compared to 2019, entering the top 10 ranking, and the ‘leisure resources’ ranking also showed a high ranking at 11th place. The ‘ICT readiness’ category (2nd) was revealed to be the country’s strongest point, and the ‘land and maritime transport infrastructure’ sector also rose by 4 levels compared to 2019, ranking 7th. ‘Health and hygiene’ also achieved a high ranking at 13th place.’,
