The Cultural and Arts Policy Advisory Committee has been launched, with novelist Eun Hee-kyung appointed as the chairperson.

Novelist Eun Hee-kyung will chair the Culture and Arts Policy Advisory Committee, which will be launched on the 10th.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that the committee, consisting of 90 experts in culture and the arts, including Chairperson Eun Hee-kyung, will be launched as a minister-direct advisory group.

Under the direct supervision of Minister Choi Hwi-young, the committee will operate in nine sectors: literature, theater and musicals, classical music, traditional Korean music, dance, art, popular music, film and video, games, webtoons and animation, and publishing.

Unlike last month’s launch of the Popular Culture Exchange Committee, chaired by singer-producer Park Jin-young, the Culture and Arts Policy Advisory Committee is composed of experts in various fields such as creators, academia, industry, and critics who form the ecosystem of culture and the arts.

In addition to Chairperson Eun, members of the committee include Shin Chun-soo, President of the Korean Musical Producers Association, Kim Joo-won, head of the Korea Ballet Festival Promotion Group, Shin Dae-cheol, chairman of the Cooperative for Fair Music, composer Yoon Il-sang, Kim Young-man, president of the Korea eSports Association, Shin Il-sook, president of the Korea Cartoonists Association, Jung Jong-min, CEO of CJ CGV, Heo Jeong-do, CEO of Kyobo Book Centre, and actors Lee Ki-young, Lee Won-jong, and Kim Su-ro.

The committee plans to hold frequent sectoral meetings to engage in practical discussions. It will deliberate on various topics, such as policy support measures to strengthen the creative base of artists, policies to solidify the foundation of the cultural creation industry ecosystem, and support measures for young artists.

Minister Choi Hwi-young stated, “The culturally creative industry, which was first specified in the APEC Gyeongju Declaration, cannot continue to grow unless its foundation is strong,” adding, “We expect the Culture and Arts Policy Advisory Committee to play a practical role, along with the already established Popular Culture Exchange Committee, as the two main platforms for communication in cultural and arts policy.”
