The cold wave begins, peaking on Thursday… 30cm of heavy snow in Chungcheong and Jeonbuk [D Report]

The outside temperature drastically changed overnight.

Today (7th), the morning low in Seoul was minus 5.7 degrees, which is more than 7 degrees lower than yesterday.

The mercury in Cheorwon dropped to minus 15 degrees, the lowest nationwide, and temperatures fell sharply mainly in central regions such as Paju at minus 11.9 degrees and Jecheon at minus 10.8 degrees.

This is because cold air from the northwest continued to move southward, developing a continental anticyclone that affects Korea during winter, impacting the weather again.

The wind is also blowing strongly across the country, making it feel even colder.

Cold wave warnings are in effect in northern Gangwon and inland, as well as northern Gyeonggi, and starting tomorrow, daytime temperatures nationwide will hover below freezing.

There is a possibility that Seoul might also experience its first cold wave warning of this winter.

The cold will continue for the time being, peaking on Thursday.

The morning low in Seoul on Thursday is expected to drop to minus 11 degrees, with temperatures nationwide ranging from minus 17 to minus 4 degrees.

Heavy snow is forecasted for the Chungcheong and Honam regions.

Snow clouds, which have developed while passing over the West Sea, are expected to bring more than 30 cm of snow to the western coastal areas of Jeollabuk-do and southern inland Jeollabuk-do, more than 20 cm to northern Jeollanam-do, Jeju Island mountain areas, and the southern coastal areas of Chungnam, and 3-8 cm to Chungbuk and southern Gyeongnam by the day after tomorrow.

[Kong Sang-min / Weather Bureau Forecast Analyst: There will be another strong period when the pressure trough passes at the point when the sea-air temperature difference is greatest, on the afternoon of the 9th (Thursday), with the intensity fluctuating periodically….]

Heavy snow warnings have been issued for Gochang and Buan in Jeollabuk-do, and snow advisories have been issued for other parts of the Honam and Chungnam coastal areas.

Up to 10 cm of snow has already accumulated in Jeollabuk-do and Chungnam.

The Korea Meteorological Administration has urged people to be cautious of icy roads and slippery surfaces in areas where heavy snowfalls.
