The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gyeongju Cultural Foundation, Korean Foundation for Cultural Heritage, and Plato Academy, announced on the 17th that they will host a special discussion on the theme “A Sustainable Tomorrow We Create” from the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit from a cultural perspective. This will be held at 7 PM on the 20th at Yonsei University’s main auditorium in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. This event is a preliminary event for the “International Gyeongju History and Culture Forum,” which will take place in Gyeongju this September in conjunction with the APEC Summit.
The discussion will be led by Kim Ji-yoon, a researcher at Sogang University’s Institute of Social Science. It will feature Yuval Harari, a scholar researching the paths of human survival and prosperity, discussing what humanity must do to create a sustainable future in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). Jeon Byeong-geun, CEO of Bookclub Origin, and Kang Yeon-ah, a professor at Yonsei University’s College of Convergence Humanities and Social Sciences, will join as panelists to share perspectives on the role of human values and culture in the AI era.
The discussion will be available online in real time on the YouTube channels of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the “2025 APEC Summit,” as well as the Plato Academy. An edited video will be posted on the participating organizations’ websites at the end of April.
A policy officer from the Ministry stated, “This discussion is a cultural event that aims to support the successful hosting of the APEC Summit by mobilizing our country’s cultural capabilities. We hope to discuss the importance of connecting and understanding each other through culture to create a sustainable future for humanity.”
