Singer Hyun-chul who sang ‘Bongseonhwa Yeonjeong’ and ‘I Hate, I Hate’ has passed away.

“Popular trot singer Hyeoncheol, who gained great popularity in the 1980s and 1990s with songs like ‘Bongseonhwa Yeonjeong,’ has passed away at the age of 82. According to composer Jeong Wonsu, who was once Hyeoncheol’s manager, he mentioned that Hyeoncheol passed away due to an illness, and the funeral arrangements are currently pending.

Born in 1942, Hyeoncheol made his debut at the age of 27 in 1969 with the song ‘Mujeonghan Geudae.’ Unlike other singers like Nah Uhn-ah and Nam Jin, Hyeoncheol had to endure a long period of obscurity before gaining recognition. However, in the 1980s, he rose to fame with hits like ‘Anjeuna Seona Dansin Saenggak’ and ‘Sarangeun Nabingabwa.’

Hyeoncheol’s peak came in 1989 when he won the grand prize at the KBS ‘Gayo Daejeon’ with ‘Bongseonhwa Yeonjeong,’ and the following year in 1990, he won another grand prize with the hit ‘Silhta Sireo,’ solidifying his success. In recent years, Hyeoncheol’s health deteriorated due to a cervical disc surgery that caused nerve damage, leading to a prolonged illness.”
