Severe rain warnings in parts of Seoul and Gyeonggi… Gimpo Airport experiences downpour with 100mm per hour

Yes, heavy rain is falling in various parts of the metropolitan area, including Seoul and Incheon.

A heavy rain disaster text alert was sent at 8:32 a.m. to Deokjeok-myeon in Ongjin County, Incheon, where more than 150mm of torrential rain fell per hour.

Currently, the rain is concentrated in the western part of the metropolitan area.

Looking at the hourly rainfall amounts, Gonghang-dong in Seoul recorded 110mm, Gochon-eup in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, 99mm, and Hyeoncheon-dong in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, 82.5mm.

Additionally, extreme heavy rain exceeding 80mm per hour is occurring in Gangseo-gu and Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul.

With the stationary front moving north overnight and bringing with it low pressure, a band of heavy rain clouds is currently passing through the central region.

Moisture is being supplied from the West Sea, causing heavy rain particularly in the west.

The heavy rain warnings are gradually expanding from the west to the east.

Heavy rain warnings have been issued for all of Incheon, including Ganghwa and Ongjin, as well as Gimpo, Paju, Goyang, Yangju in Gyeonggi Province, and Seoul.

A heavy rain advisory has been issued for most other areas of the metropolitan region.

Cumulative rainfall today has far exceeded 200mm in places like Ongjin County, Incheon, and more than 150mm in areas like Gimpo and Goyang in Gyeonggi Province and Gangseo in Seoul.

By tomorrow, more than 200mm of rain is expected in Incheon and northern Gyeonggi Province, over 150mm in Gangwon Province, and more than 100mm in northern Chungnam.

Up to 150mm more rain is expected in the metropolitan area, including Seoul.

Particularly, there is a possibility of torrential rain reaching 50mm per hour, accompanied by gusts of wind and lightning, in various parts of the central region, including the metropolitan area and Gangwon Province, until dawn tomorrow, so caution is advised.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts that the rain in the central region will gradually cease from tomorrow afternoon into the night.
