A strong cold front from the north has caused the entire nation to freeze over. In Seoul, a cold wave warning has been issued for the first time this winter, with temperatures dropping to -11.5°C this morning. With the wind chill, it feels as cold as -18.7°C. This cold spell, with temperatures below -10°C, is expected to continue for the time being. As a result, the third level of the multi-stage freeze warning system will remain in effect.
To prevent frozen pipes, it’s important to fill the inside of the water meter box with dry insulating materials like old clothes and towels to seal it from cold air. During long outings or at night, it can be helpful to leave a faucet slightly open to allow water to flow.
A cold wave alert will continue across most regions tomorrow as well. The morning temperatures will start at -12°C in Seoul, -11°C in Daejeon, and -6°C in Gwangju. With the added wind chill, the perceived temperature will be more than 5°C lower than these figures. Since even during the day the cold below freezing will persist, it is important to take extra care of your health.
Meanwhile, snow is continuing intermittently along the west coast of Chungnam, in Honam, and Jeju. Although a significant amount of snow has already fallen, until the morning after tomorrow, mountainous areas of Jeju could see more than 30 cm of additional snowfall, and Honam could receive more than 20 cm. The west coast of Chungnam is also expected to get more than 15 cm of extra snow. Especially from early tomorrow morning, these regions could experience very heavy snowfall rates of 3 to 5 cm per hour. Please take precautions to avoid vehicle isolation or structural collapses.
This has been the weather update.
