“Read the Constitution at Least Once in Your Life”… Surge in Sales of Books Related to the Constitution

According to YES24 on the 20th, sales of “Constitution” related books have increased for two consecutive months from December to January.

In December of last year, sales of constitutional books increased by 219% compared to the previous month, and in January this year, they rose by 79%. Compared to the same period last year, sales in January skyrocketed by 13 times (1285.4%).

Professor Lee Hyo-won’s book, “Read the Constitution at Least Once in Your Lifetime,” became the best-selling book related to the constitution, with sales increasing by 323.5% compared to the same period the previous month. This book explains the meanings behind the phrases and words of all 130 articles of the South Korean Constitution.

There has also been a significant increase in the number of people transcribing the full text of the constitution.

The book “Constitution Writing,” which presents the entire constitution in order and provides space for readers to write it out, saw sales skyrocket by 1036% in January compared to the previous month, ranking it as the second bestseller.

In addition to these, books such as “Now, the Constitution Again,” an easily readable constitutional commentary for the general public, and “A Sneak Peek into the Constitution,” which introduces 100 sentences from the constitution, have made it to the upper ranks of bestsellers.

Last month, sales of “democracy” related books increased by 25.5% compared to the previous month. In January, books such as “What Is Justice?” and “Why Nations Fail” ranked among the top 20 bestsellers in the social and political category. “My Korean Modern History 1959-2020,” published in 2021, climbed back to sixth place in January’s history bestsellers.
