Pianist Noh Hyun-jin Wins First Place at the Paderewski International Piano Competition

Mozart Concerto Award and 3 Other Special Prizes Also Won

, ‘[E-Daily Reporter Lee Yoon-jung] Pianist Noh Hyun-jin (24) from the Kumho Young Musicians program not only clinched the top spot at the 13th Paderewski International Piano Competition held in Bydgoszcz, Poland but also swept three special awards. Another Korean participant, Kim Ji-young (29) from the Kumho Young Artists program, confirmed the presence of Korean pianists by winning 4th place.’,

, ‘The Kumho Cultural Foundation announced on the 24th that at this competition, which concluded on the 22nd (local time), Noh Hyun-jin won 1st place along with the Semifinal Recital Award, Mozart Concerto Award, and the Best Performance of a Paderewski Work Award. The total prize money amounts to 33,000 euros (approximately 55.85 million won). Noh Hyun-jin expressed, “I am happy to have the opportunity to perform on the stage I have dreamed of for a long time. It makes me feel that I need to work harder with a humble heart in the future.”’,

, ‘The Paderewski International Piano Competition was established to honor the Polish pianist and politician Ignacy Jan Paderewski (1860–1941). Since the first competition in 1961, it has been held every three years since 1998, targeting pianists aged between 18 and 32. This year, 234 participants from 36 countries competed. Notable past Korean winners include Esther Jung-ah Park (2nd place in 2004), Kim Hyun-jung (2nd place in 2010), Moon Ji-young (1st place in 2013), and Lee Hyuk (1st place in 2016).’,

, ‘In this year’s competition, which ran from November 10 to 18, five finalists were selected through preliminary rounds. On the finals on the 21st, Noh Hyun-jin collaborated with the Pomeranian Philharmonic Orchestra of Paderewski to perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 “Emperor” Op.73, securing his victory. Second place went to Cecino Elia (Italy), and third place to Lin Finhong (China).’,

, ‘Noh Hyun-jin made his debut at the Kumho Young Musicians Concert in 2014 and has excelled both nationally and internationally, reaching 2nd place at the 2024 Borderland Chopin International Competition and the semifinals in both the Leeds International Piano Competition and the Hilton Head International Piano Competition. He has also won numerous domestic competitions, such as the Joongang Music Concours and Ewha Kyunghyang Music Concours, and performed in major venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lotte Concert Hall. After studying at Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School, and Seoul National University, he completed his master’s degree at the New England Conservatory and is currently enrolled in the highest performance program.’,

, ‘Kim Ji-young, who placed 4th, made her debut at the Kumho Young Artists Concert in 2014 and has achieved remarkable results both locally and internationally, including 2nd place in the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Competition and 3rd place in the Helsinki International Maj Lind Competition. She has performed with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra. After graduating from Seoul National University, she completed her master’s and Meister program at the Munich University of Music and is currently pursuing a highest performance program at the Leipzig University of Music.’,
