The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) is accepting applications from four companies to develop Hanbok designs until the 9th of next month.
Actor Park Bo-gum has been chosen as the first male model for the MCST’s “Hanbok Wave” project, promoting the charm of Hanbok worldwide. The MCST and the Korea Craft & Design Foundation announced on the 15th that Park Bo-gum will collaborate with four domestic Hanbok brands to promote the elegance and style of Hanbok as a key figure in Korean cultural arts.
Now in its sixth year, the Hanbok Wave project works with Korean Wave artists to showcase the appeal of Hanbok on the international stage and support capable Hanbok brands in entering overseas markets. Previous participants included actress Kim Tae-ri in 2024, actress Suzy in 2023, and former figure skater Kim Yuna in 2022.
From today until May 9th, companies interested in developing Hanbok products can apply. The focus is on small and medium enterprises in the Hanbok sector. Selection criteria include creativity, expertise, feasibility, and expected impact. The four chosen companies will create Hanbok designs that incorporate Park Bo-gum’s image and symbolism.
The developed Hanbok designs will be showcased on billboards and in famous fashion magazines in major cities such as Seoul, New York, Paris, and Milan.
