(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Hwang Hee-kyung: The handwritten manuscript of Park Kyung-ni’s epic novel “Toji” and the memoirs of a Japanese diplomat known for interrogating An Jung-geun following his Harbin assassination attempt have come up for auction.
Seoul Auction announced on the 5th that on the afternoon of the 17th, at their Gangnam Center in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, they will auction 137 items, including the memoirs of Japanese diplomat Ono Mori, related to An Jung-geun.
Ono’s memoirs, spanning 14 pages, provide details of the three days between the Harbin assassination on October 26, 1909, and An’s official interrogation at the Japanese consulate on the 30th. Alongside the memoirs, seven photographs and eight glass plate negatives related to An and the Harbin incident are also being auctioned together as a collection titled “An Jung-geun related materials,” with an estimated value of 1 billion won.
Numerous first editions of modern literature will also be auctioned. Among them, the handwritten manuscript of the fifth part of Park Kyung-ni’s “Toji” is being presented in the art market for the first time, showcasing sections where the author corrected typos and refined expressions. The estimated auction price is 500 million won. Additionally, rare books such as the first edition of Kim Sowol’s “Azaleas,” registered as a National Cultural Heritage, and the first editions of Manhae Han Yong-un’s “Silence of My Beloved” and Baek Seok’s “Deer,” which reportedly had only 100 copies printed at the author’s expense, will be auctioned.
Additionally, works like Lee Jung-seob’s “Silver Paintings,” paintings by George Condo, and Hermes and Chanel bags are also up for auction.
The auction items will be available for free viewing from the 7th at the Seoul Auction Gangnam Center.
