“Oasis Faces Backlash for Rising Sun Flag Imagery in ‘October Korea Concert’ [Issue Culture]”

A world-renowned rock band ‘Oasis’ is embroiled in controversy over a video that evokes the Rising Sun Flag, often associated with the Japanese military.

The disappointment among fans seems to be growing as they are scheduled to visit Korea this fall.

Let’s take a look at the news.

Recently, a video was posted on Oasis’s official social media labeled as the ‘new visual for the album Morning Glory.’

However, images reminiscent of the Rising Sun Flag appear throughout the video, drawing criticism from viewers. The Rising Sun Flag, used by the Japanese imperial forces during World War II, remains taboo in Asian countries, including Korea.

Particularly, Oasis is set to perform in Korea for the first time in 16 years this October, leading to significant backlash from local fans.

Meanwhile, last month, Oasis faced controversy when member Liam Gallagher used expressions demeaning to Asians, including the Chinese.

This has been ‘Issue Culture.’
