November Designated as ‘Copyright Festival Month’… Academic and Cultural Events to be Held

“Citizens are encouraged to directly participate and share the meaning of respecting copyright”

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Hwang Jae-ha = The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 3rd that it designated November as “Copyright Festival Month” in collaboration with the Korea Copyright Commission and the Korea Copyright Protection Agency, and plans to hold academic and cultural events, as well as campaigns.

This is the second designation of “Copyright Festival Month,” following last November. Various events will be held throughout the month to encourage public participation, building on the government’s continued efforts to spread a culture of respect for copyright. Academic events, such as conferences, forums, and seminars, will also be held to share domestic and international trends related to copyright.

On the 5th, the Ministry will host the “International Copyright Technology Conference” in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Presidential Council on Intellectual Property. This event will be broadcast live online. On the 6th, the “9th Overseas Intellectual Property Protection Council” involving 35 organizations from related ministries, public institutions, and private associations will be held to discuss countermeasures for overseas intellectual property infringements.

On the 17th and 18th, the “International Forum on Copyright Enforcement” will take place to seek advancements in the global copyright protection system, bringing together domestic and international law enforcement agencies. On the 28th, a joint academic conference commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Korean Copyright Law Association is also scheduled.

Separately from the academic events, cultural events related to copyright protection will be held in Jinju, Gyeongnam, a city specialized in copyright.

The National Copyright Museum will hold a special exhibition titled “Music, Whose Right Is It?” on the 24th to highlight changes in the music market following shifts in copyright awareness. On the 28th, a “Copyright Talk Concert” is planned at the Jinju headquarters of the Korea Copyright Commission.

Additionally, on the 3rd, choreographer Lia Kim will be appointed as a copyright ambassador, and on the 21st, an award ceremony for the “2025 Copyright Awareness Promotion Contest” will be held, granting the Prime Minister’s Award and the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award to 18 winners. On the 25th, the “2nd Copyright Protection Target and Development Contributor Awards Ceremony” will take place, presenting 38 commendations from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to individuals who contributed to copyright protection.

Furthermore, a “Support Comment Campaign for Copyright Respect Culture” will be conducted through social media. Related events such as the “International Copyright Technology Conference,” the “Shared and Public Works Award,” and “G-STAR 2025” are also planned.

Jeong Hyang-mi, Director of the Copyright Division at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, “A healthy copyright culture created jointly by creators and citizens serves as a foundation that robustly supports the future of ‘K-content,'” adding, “We hope that many citizens will directly participate, cheer on, and share the meaning of copyright respect during this ‘Copyright Festival Month.'”
