The group NewJeans (Minji, Hani, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein), currently in a contractual dispute with ADOR, has changed their team name to “NJZ” and begun their independent activities.
On February 7th, NewJeans revealed their new team name on their social media accounts. Following their declaration to terminate the exclusive contract with ADOR, the social media account previously named ‘JeanzForFree(@jeanzforfree)’ was also renamed to ‘NJZ_Official.’ This announcement comes about two weeks after they publicly solicited ideas for a new team name. The members stated, “Minji, Hani, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein’s new group name is NJZ. Look forward to the surprising journey with NJZ in 2025.”
With the announcement of their new team name, they also shared that they will be performing at “Complex Live,” a side event of the global street fashion and culture festival “ComplexCon,” held at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong next month.
Minji expressed her excitement by saying, “I’m thrilled to take the stage as NJZ for the first time and show a new side of us. We are eagerly anticipating this important moment, hoping to share the new music we’ve been wanting to present to fans around the world.”
ADOR commented, “We find it very regrettable that the members have chosen to make such a decision unilaterally before any legal judgment is made. ADOR will do its utmost to protect the brand value of NewJeans.”
Since declaring the termination of the exclusive contract with ADOR last November, the members have not used the name “NewJeans” in official settings. ADOR has filed a lawsuit to verify the validity of the exclusive contract with the NewJeans members, along with an application for an injunction to prohibit management from signing contracts, including advertising agreements.
