As interest in Korean culture rises with the popularity of Netflix animation ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’, the National Museum of Korea is expected to record its highest ever number of visitors this year.
The National Museum of Korea announced today (26th) that the number of visitors from January 1st to yesterday has been provisionally compiled at 4,189,822.
This figure significantly surpasses last year’s visitor count of 3,788,785.
The annual visitor number has exceeded 4 million for the first time, surpassing the record of 2023 (4,180,285), which was the highest at the time.
Given the current trend, it is projected to surpass the 5 million mark for the first time since the museum (then known as the National Museum) opened in 1945.
This is a first in the museum’s 80-year history.
The number of visitors to the National Museum of Korea has been steadily increasing recently.
In January and February, monthly visitors hit 513,262 and 543,361, respectively, marking over 500,000 visitors for two consecutive months, and in July, the number soared to 747,679.
As of last month, an estimated average of 24,000 people visited the museum daily.
It is estimated that visitor numbers have already exceeded 700,000 this month.
Many analysts say that interest in Korean culture has surged amid the global popularity of the Netflix animated film ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’.
