Amid the most severe cold wave this winter, there will be heavy snowfall concentrated in Chungnam, Jeolla, and the mountainous regions of Jeju today. The west coast of North Jeolla and the southern inland areas of North Jeolla could see snowfall of up to 20 cm or more, while the west coast of South Chungcheong, Gwangju, and northern parts of South Jeolla are expected to receive over 15 cm of snow. The mountainous areas of Jeju Island and Ulleungdo could also receive up to 20 cm of snow, whereas parts of southern Gyeonggi and the southern west coast might experience around 1 cm of snow.
A severe cold wave is upon us as well, with the temperature in Imnam-myeon, Cheorwon, Gangwon-do, dropping below minus 21 degrees Celsius this morning. Morning temperatures in most parts of central Korea dropped to around minus 10 degrees, and daytime temperatures, such as in Seoul, are expected to stay around minus 8 degrees with little change from the morning.
Tomorrow, it will become even colder, with morning temperatures across the country expected to drop by 2 to 8 degrees compared to today, ranging from minus 21 to minus 5 degrees. The wind will continue to blow strongly, making the wind chill even lower, and dry conditions along the east coast will increase the risk of wildfires.
Today, waves on the seas will be very high, ranging from 2 to 5 meters across nearly all maritime areas.
