Mercedes-Benz Korea announced on the 28th that they have launched the high-performance model “Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 MATIC+” of its flagship SUV, the GLS.
The Mercedes-AMG GLS is the first GLS model to be introduced in the domestic market, combining the design of the flagship SUV GLS with AMG’s technological prowess. It is equipped with a wide range of safety and convenience features favored by domestic customers.
The vehicle is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine, delivering a maximum output of 612 horsepower and a maximum torque of 86.7 kg.m. The engine is characterized by precisely controlled output and explosive power delivery, with twin-scroll turbochargers placed between the cylinder heads to reduce air movement paths.
During driving, the BlueDIRECT multi-injection system and multi-spark ignition technology offer high efficiency and a smooth rotational feel. Additionally, the compact design of the engine bank optimizes vehicle weight distribution for nimble cornering.
Moreover, it features a 48-volt mild hybrid with a boost function and an integrated starter-generator (ISG) for energy recuperation and smooth engine restarts.
The vehicle comes standard with AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension with adaptive damping adjustment.
The active roll stabilization system, AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL, operates with two electric-mechanical actuators installed on the front and rear axles, actively reducing body roll during cornering and allowing for more precise steering. During straight-line driving, it compensates for road surface bumps, enhancing driving comfort.
It also tunes the software of the ESP® (Electronic Stability Program), electronic-controlled rear differential lock, fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, and suspension control system.
The front hood features an AMG emblem instead of the Mercedes-Benz star logo, and it is accentuated with 22-inch AMG multi-spoke lightweight alloy wheels and red brake calipers to highlight its high-performance image. When the front door is opened, the AMG-exclusive light animation welcomes occupants through a logo projector.
The interior applies AMG-exclusive Nappa leather to key components like the AMG seats and dashboard. It also features an AMG Performance steering wheel that facilitates easy operation of important driving functions and all driving programs. The second-generation MBUX infotainment system and AMG-specific screens are also included.
Additionally, it comes with convenience features such as the Air Balance package, multi-contour seats for the front and rear, a head-up display, and temperature-controlled cup holders in the front seats.
The consumer price is 208.6 million KRW.
