The scorching heat continues… Seoul 33.8℃, Mapo-gu 35.6℃, Anseong Gosam 37.5℃, Yeongwol in Gangwon and Wando in Jeonnam 36.2℃. ‘ [Anchor]’, Gwangbokjeol (Korean Liberation Day) is today, and the heat wave is prevailing once again. Nationwide temperatures are soaring close to 35 degrees Celsius, with no sign of the heat wave abating. Due to the unstable atmosphere amidst the heat, sporadic showers are expected in various areas. [Anchor]: The scorching heat continues today. How intense is the heat felt on site?
[Weather Caster]: Yes, persistent blazing heat is evident. It’s so hot without shade that standing still even for a moment can be difficult due to the scorching sun. Citizens here are seen seeking relief from the heat under the shade, sipping on cold drinks. As of 1:30 pm, the official temperature in Seoul has risen to 33.8 degrees Celsius, causing one to sweat just by standing still. In Mapo-gu, Seoul, temperatures soared to nearly 36 degrees Celsius.
In this hot weather, one is prone to heat-related illnesses, so please remember to stay hydrated, take breaks, and seek shade when outdoors. Today is once again showing intense heat.
Though unofficial, Gosam-myeon in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, has reached an alarming 37 degrees Celsius, marking the highest temperature of the day. Official records show that Yeongwol in Gangwon and Wando in Jeonnam reached up to 36 degrees Celsius, similar to human body temperature. The heat is not expected to subside completely, with tropical nights reappearing throughout the country.
Tomorrow, Seoul’s morning temperature is forecasted to be 27 degrees Celsius, prolonging the tropical nights for the 26th consecutive day and breaking the record for the longest tropical nights streak. Busan and Yeosu will have 26 degrees Celsius, Gwangju 25 degrees Celsius, and other areas will also experience tropical nights until the morning.
The scorching heat will continue tomorrow. It’s expected to be 34 degrees Celsius in Seoul and Daejeon, and 33 degrees Celsius in Daegu. With the worsening atmospheric instability due to the rising temperatures, showers and cloud cover are developing in various areas.
Today and tomorrow, most regions of the country will experience 5 to 60mm of rainfall, with Jeju Island expecting over 100mm of rain due to a low-pressure system. Particularly, Jeju Island and Honam regions may experience heavy rainfall of around 30mm per hour accompanied by thunder and lightning.
The tropical nights and heatwaves are expected to continue until next Thursday, the beginning of the mid-season ‘Cheoseo’, with frequent chances of showers.
The UV index is reaching ‘very high’ levels in many places today. Additionally, the ozone levels are showing ‘bad’ conditions in the Seoul metropolitan area, Chungcheongnam-do, and Jeollanam-do.
