Kia begins pre-orders for its first dedicated PBV, the ‘PV5’… “With a cargo space of 4,420 liters”

Kia has revealed the specifications and pricing for its brand’s first electric purpose-built vehicle (PBV), ‘The Kia PV5’, and announced the start of contracts from June 10. The PV5, based on the PBV-specific electrification platform ‘E-GMP.S’, is designed to meet various customer needs with integrated hardware and software solutions that support an optimal business environment. Initially, Kia will launch the passenger (5-seater, 2-3-0) model and the long cargo model on the market.

The PV5 passenger model caters to diverse lifestyles like car camping and picnics, offering generous interior space through an optimized layout and seat configuration over its 2995mm long wheelbase. The first available 5-seater 2-3-0 model features reclining and ‘fold & dive’ functions on the second-row seats, allowing flexible usage based on needs. The trunk capacity expands from the basic 1330L to a maximum of 2310L when the second-row seats aren’t in use.

Kia has incorporated a large capacity tray beneath the trunk’s luggage board, equipped with an outdoor V2L connector and a fire extinguisher, while a lowered floor design facilitates comfortable entry and exit for all ages. The sliding door’s opening width is 775mm for wheelchair accessibility, and a footrest is standard under the front seats. The PV5 passenger model is powered by a long-range electric motor (120kW max output, 250Nm max torque) and a 71.2kWh battery, providing a range of 358km per charge. Fast charging from 10% to 80% battery takes approximately 30 minutes with a 350kW charger.

The PV5 cargo model boasts ample cargo space and optimized features for a variety of business environments, such as compact, long, and high-roof versions. With the long model measuring 4695mm, the cargo space extends to 2255mm length, 1565mm width, 1520mm height, and a maximum cargo volume of 4420L. The loading height is 419mm to facilitate easy loading, complemented by dual-opening tailgates and LED lighting for enhanced convenience and safety. Cargo models offer long-range (71.2kWh battery) and standard (51.5kWh battery) options, with a maximum range of 377km per charge.

Kia has incorporated several purpose-built features in PV5, including a 16:9, 12.9-inch display, an Android-based infotainment system with the first-ever app market installable third-party apps, developed in collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group. Kia also introduces ‘Pleo Fleet’, a vehicle management solution for real-time telematics without additional terminals, providing integrated fleet management capabilities.

PV5 offers advanced braking systems like ‘i-Pedal 3.0’ and ‘Smart Regenerative Braking 3.0’ for deceleration and complete stops. The pre-tax vehicle prices are as follows: Passenger Basic at 47.09 million KRW, Plus at 50 million KRW, Cargo Standard Basic at 42 million KRW, and Long-Range Basic at 44.7 million KRW. After EV tax incentives and government subsidies, the anticipated cost for the Passenger model is in the upper 30 million KRW range, and the Cargo model in the upper 20 million KRW range, varying by region.

The warranty period covers 3 years/60,000km for the body and general parts, 5 years/100,000km for powertrain components, 10 years/160,000km for EV-specific parts, and 10 years/200,000km for the high-voltage battery. Starting with the passenger and cargo models, Kia plans a sequential rollout of the PV5 lineup, introducing diverse conversion models tailored for leisure, premium passenger experience, and special-purpose vehicles, enhancing the core lineup.
