Hyundai’s Air Mobility Leader Departs… Shin Jae-won, Appointed as Advisor at Motional President

Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 28th that it has appointed Shin Jae-won as an advisor. Shin previously served as the head of the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) organization responsible for future urban air mobility at Hyundai Motor and Kia, as well as the CEO of Supernal, Hyundai’s urban air mobility subsidiary in the United States.

A spokesperson for the group stated, “Shin Jae-won has completed the foundational technology development in the field of future air transportation, and it was judged that now is the time for new leadership for commercialization, hence this appointment.”

Hyundai Motor Group has focused on securing the basic performance of aircraft through the analysis of power systems, structural analysis, aerodynamics, noise, and control logic in the first phase. Based on these achievements, the group plans to enter the second phase, focusing on commercialization in collaboration with new leadership that has strengths in business development and operations.

Since joining Hyundai Motor Group in 2019, Shin has led the AAM business. Since 2021, he has concurrently served as the CEO of Supernal, a subsidiary established by Hyundai in the U.S. to focus on future air mobility.

In an internal email sent to Supernal employees, Shin stated, “Hyundai Motor Group’s AAM business has entered a new phase, and new leadership is needed to execute it more effectively.”

Until a new CEO for Supernal is appointed, Hyundai plans to operate with David Rothblatt, who is in charge of business development, as the interim Chief Operating Officer.
