Hyundai Casper Electric Dominates BYD and Citroën in German Media Review

Hyundai Motor Company’s small electric car, the ‘Casper Electric’ (known locally as Inster), has claimed the top spot in the comprehensive evaluation by the German automotive magazine, Auto Bild. Hyundai announced on the 23rd that the Casper Electric achieved first place in all categories of the small electric car comparison conducted by Auto Bild, securing the overall win.

This evaluation involved three major small electric car models in the European market, including the Citroën ‘e-C3’ and BYD ‘Dolphin Surf’. The assessment was based on seven categories: body, convenience, powertrain, driving performance, connectivity, eco-friendliness, and cost-effectiveness, with a total possible score of 800 points.

The Casper Electric recorded a total score of 558 points, significantly ahead of the Dolphin Surf (503 points) and e-C3 (501 points). It particularly excelled in power consumption efficiency, achieving a real-world driving efficiency of 6.71 km/kWh, which is 20–30% more efficient than its competitors.

Based on this, the translated real-world driving range of the Casper Electric was 308 km, substantially surpassing its rival models. It also received high evaluations for its space utilization through features like ‘second-row sliding seats’ and ‘front passenger seat folding function’, as well as for its short braking distance and stable steering performance.

Furthermore, the Casper Electric was ranked first as the “best small electric car for commuters and value-conscious consumers” by the same publication. In the first quarter of this year, it sold 9,447 units in the European small electric car market, marking a 66% increase compared to the same period last year.

A Hyundai representative stated, “Achieving first place across all categories is significant,” and added, “We will continue to develop electric vehicles optimized for real-use environments.”
