Choi Hui-young, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, visited Gyeongju, the site for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, as his first official schedule after taking office on the 1st. According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Minister Choi conducted an on-site inspection in Gyeongju, the venue for the 2025 APEC Summit.
After his inauguration ceremony at the Government Complex Sejong, Minister Choi traveled to Gyeongju for a two-day schedule. He inspected various locations, including the APEC summit hall, media center, venue for the leaders’ dinner, exhibition hall, and the venue for the Cultural Industry Dialogue, to check the status of infrastructure development.
During his visit, Minister Choi also stopped by the Wooyang Museum of Art in Gyeongju, where the Cultural Industry Dialogue is set to begin on the 26th. He toured the special exhibition of Nam June Paik being held there.
Minister Choi remarked, “It is impressive to see the heritage of Gyeongju, a city with a thousand-year history, being reinterpreted as today’s culture through Nam June Paik’s video art.” He added, “We will make every effort to ensure that this APEC Summit becomes a ‘culture summit’ where tradition, technology, art, and innovation resonate successfully.”
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated that it will work closely with related departments, including the APEC Summit Preparation Planning Team (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Gyeongsangbuk-do, and Gyeongju City, to ensure that the summit is remembered as a cultural festival that can be enjoyed and appreciated by leaders and delegations from each country as well as all Korean citizens.
