, This exhibition and explanation meeting were prepared as part of the ‘Overseas Excavation and Research on Silla-related Relics and Artefacts in Japan’ by the National Gyeongju Cultural Heritage Research Institute, which has been conducting excavation and research on the No. 44 Soksam area in Gyeongju since 2014, and the ‘Funabaru Kofun Korea Exchange Project’ by the Education Committee of Koga City, Japan, which has been conducting excavation of the national historical Funabaru Kofun in Japan since 2013. It serves as an opportunity to publicly present the research results of our cultural heritage to the Japanese people and researchers.

In the special exhibition, replicas created through in-depth research on major artifacts such as silk-worm decorated horse ornaments, gold crowns, gold shoes, textiles excavated from No. 44 Soksam will be showcased. There will also be sessions where art researchers and scholars who participated in the excavation and comprehensive research of the No. 44 Soksam site explain the major achievements and exhibits of the excavation in two sessions during the exhibition.

, In this exhibition, replicas of horse bridles decorated with silk worms excavated from the Funabaru Kofun in Japan will also be exhibited. As in our No. 44 Soksam site where horse ornaments adorned with silk worms’ wings were found, it is a great opportunity to compare ancient Korean and Japanese silk-worm decorated artifacts at a glance.

An official from the National Heritage Administration stated, “Through this opportunity to directly showcase and explain the excellent cultural heritage of Silla in Japan, it is expected to stimulate research on the exchange between ancient Silla and Japan, which is less well known compared to Baekje and Gaya.”
