Temperatures Drop to -10°C with Strong Winds
Expected to Recover to Normal Levels by Afternoon
On the 13th, due to cold air coming from the northwest and heavy snowfall, morning temperatures are expected to drop to around -10°C. Strong winds will make it feel even colder. The Meteorological Administration has advised caution for traffic safety, warning about icy roads from the snow that fell the previous day.
On the 12th, the Meteorological Administration forecasted that the morning low temperatures on the 13th nationwide would range from -11°C to 1°C. This continues the trend of severe cold since the 3rd, lasting for 10 days. The forecast for Seoul’s lowest temperature on the 13th is -5°C, with a wind chill of -8°C.
An official from the Meteorological Administration mentioned that the accumulated snow will freeze, creating icy patches and slick roads in many areas. They urged people to be particularly cautious about traffic safety, maintaining safe distances, and reducing speed. A heavy snow warning was issued in central regions on the 12th, with heavy snow falling in various parts of the country. Regions like Jeolla, Gyeongsang, Gyeonggi, and Chungbuk experienced intense snowfall at the rate of 1-3 cm per hour.
Temperatures are expected to recover to normal levels from the afternoon of the 13th. By the 15th, temperatures are anticipated to be similar to the average minimum of -9°C to 1°C, and maximum of 4-10°C. The nationwide average maximum temperature on the afternoon of the 13th is expected to rise significantly to 3-9°C. The morning low on the 14th is forecasted to be -7°C to 2°C, with a maximum daytime temperature of 6-12°C. On the weekend of the 15th-16th, the weather is expected to be 2-3 degrees warmer than usual.
However, as temperatures rise, there is a potential risk of safety accidents due to thinning ice. A representative from the Meteorological Administration cautioned that during the day, the temperatures will warm up, causing ice on rivers and streams to become thin and possibly break. They advised to be cautious of safety accidents due to breaking ice.
