“Heada Gabler” Lee Hye-young’s Tears: “A Shocking and Desperate Week”

The article discusses the emotional reaction of actress Lee Hye-young to the sudden injury of a fellow actor preparing for the play “Hedda Gabler.” During a press conference for the play, held at the National Theater of Korea’s Myeongdong Art Theater on the 19th, Lee expressed her despair upon receiving shocking news the day before the performance. Lee Hye-young, who starred in the original production of “Hedda Gabler” in 2012, recalls the play as a modern classic that challenges traditional gender roles, initially written by Henrik Ibsen in 1890.

The production has been postponed due to actor Yun Sang-hwa’s urgent health issue, which required emergency medical attention during a dress rehearsal. Yun was expected to play Judge Brack but has been replaced by actor Hong Seon-woo due to this unforeseen circumstance. Lee conveyed her initial frustration and emotional turmoil over the situation, finding it incredibly challenging to find a replacement so quickly.

Lee praised the dedication of Hong Seon-woo, acknowledging the difficulties of performing theater compared to other forms of acting due to its demand for extensive rehearsal. “Hedda Gabler” will be shown at the National Theater of Korea’s Myeongdong Art Theater until the 1st.
