Global electric vehicle sales excluding China rose by 9.0% from January to May…Tesla, the top-ranked company, showed a decline.

SNE Research Compilation…Hyundai Motor Group Maintains 4th Place with Advancements in EV9

‘(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Bo-kyung = Energy specialist market research firm SNE Research announced on the 8th that a total of 2.259 million electric vehicles were newly registered worldwide excluding China in the first five months of this year, showing a 9.0% increase compared to the same period last year.’

‘By group, Tesla recorded a sales volume of 406,000 units, a 12.8% decrease from the same period last year due to the underperformance of its main models, Model Y and Model 3, but still ranked first.’

‘Volkswagen Group, in second place, sold 274,000 units, an increase of 2.1%. Stellantis Group took third place with sales of 225,000 units, up by 2.7%.’

‘Hyundai Motor Group maintained its fourth place by selling 216,000 units, a decrease of 0.1%. Despite the sluggish sales of main models such as Ioniq 5 and EV6, SNE Research reported smooth sales progress for Kona Electric, Niro EV, and EV9.’

‘By region, the registration numbers were highest in Europe (1.19 million units), followed by North America (683,000 units), and then Asia excluding China (285,000 units).’

‘Europe recorded a slightly slower growth rate of 4.5%, but still showed a market share of over 50% in the market outside China.’

‘SNE Research stated, “Chinese electric vehicles with competitive prices are threatening the electric vehicle industries of various countries, making trade barriers even higher. Chinese electric vehicle companies are establishing local production facilities and opening up new markets in South America, Australia, and other regions to bypass tariff barriers.”‘
