The Korea National Symphony Orchestra (KNSO) announced that German conductor Simon Edelmann won the 2nd KNSO International Conducting Competition, held yesterday (10th) at the Seoul Arts Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
The 2nd place went to Ian Shields from the United States, and the 3rd place to Austin Alexander Chanu, also from the United States.
The first-place winner receives a prize of 50 million won, along with opportunities to conduct regular performances with the National Symphony and participate in planned performances at the Seoul Arts Center.
Winner Simon Edelmann expressed his hopes saying, “I hope people remember the music I conducted rather than remembering me as an excellent conductor.”
This competition received applications from 224 participants from 44 countries.
