On the 7th, at the Seoul Garden Hotel in Mapo-gu, Seoul, a ‘2024 Cultural, Sports and Tourism Digital Innovation Forum’ will be held under the theme ‘A New World, Enjoying Culture through Digital’ according to an announcement on the 6th by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This forum is organized in cooperation with specialized institutions such as the Korea Culture and Information Service, the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, the Korea Tourism Organization, the Arts Council Korea, the Korea Copyright Protection Agency, and the Korea Creative Content Agency.
The event aims to discuss innovative approaches in the fields of culture, sports, and tourism using digital technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). The forum consists of two parts: the first part includes the awards ceremony for the ‘Culture Digital Innovation and Data Utilization Contest’ and a keynote speech, while the second part involves a panel discussion with experts from the culture, sports, and tourism sectors.
The contest, held from May 8th to July 15th, received participation from over 260 teams. After two rounds of evaluation, 23 teams were selected, with the top 5 teams receiving awards from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Following the awards ceremony, writer Song Gil-young will deliver a keynote speech on ‘Communication between Culture and Data Technology in the Era of AI’. This will be followed by expert discussions on law and policy, sports, tourism, arts, and content.
The Korea Culture and Information Service, Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, Korea Tourism Organization, Arts Council Korea, and Korea Creative Content Agency will operate a digital innovation promotion center at the event venue, showcasing the integration of culture and AI.
Lee Jung-mi, the policy planning director at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, commented, “In the future, we will experience the innovative role of AI in cultural creation and consumption, sports viewing and participation, and enjoying tourism. This forum is significant as it is a platform to contemplate how we can create and enjoy new cultural values.”
