Gyeongju Cultural Heritage Research Institute signs agreement with Goryeong County
First excavation in 1939… Detailed survey until 2026
, ‘[Edaily reporter Lee Yoon-jung] After 85 years, excavation of the world heritage site ‘Goryeong Jisan-dong Tomb Cluster No. 5′ is being carried out.’,
,
, ‘The National Cultural Heritage Administration, the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, and the National Gyeongju Cultural Heritage Research Institute signed an agreement with Goryeong County on the excavation survey of Goryeong Jisan-dong Tomb Cluster No. 5 at the Goryeong County Office on the 12th. The Goryeong Jisan-dong Tomb Cluster is known as a tomb cluster of the highest ruling class of Daegaya. , ‘The Goryeong Jisan-dong Tomb Cluster No. 5, which is being excavated this time, is one of the largest Gaya tombs in the Yeongnam and Honam regions (diameter 45m, height 11.9m). It is documented in the geographical treatise ‘Newly Revised Book of Tang Esoteric Records’ as ‘Geumrim Royal Tomb’. The excavation survey was conducted in 1939 during the Japanese colonial period by Arimitsu Kyoichi and Saito Dadashi, but only brief survey contents, photos of the excavation process, and unearthed artifacts have been passed down.’,
,
, ‘Starting with this agreement, this excavation survey, conducted for the first time in 85 years, will carry out a detailed excavation of the burial mound base, burial chamber, and tomb surroundings until 2026. Based on this, a excavation survey report containing survey contents and unearthed artifacts will be published in 2028. In addition to excavation, civil engineering analysis, various organic material analysis, etc., will be conducted. It is expected that the advanced burial construction technology and burial rituals of Daegaya, which have been shrouded in mystery due to limited records, will be revealed.’,
