“Even Bullets Can’t Penetrate”… G-Dragon Appears in a Tesla ‘Cybertruck’

On November 4, G-Dragon (Kwon Ji-yong) of the group Big Bang drew attention by appearing in Tesla’s electric pickup truck, the Cybertruck. G-Dragon departed for Hong Kong via Incheon International Airport to attend the Chanel 2024/25 Cruise Replica Show that afternoon. Upon his arrival at Terminal 2 of the airport, he disembarked from a Cybertruck with temporary plates. The distinctive design, reminiscent of an armored vehicle, caused passersby to stop and take photos of the vehicle with their mobile phones.

Last December, when the Cybertruck was first delivered to foreign customers, its price on the North American website was $60,990. Higher-end models exceeded $100,000. Tesla CEO Elon Musk appeared at the delivery event driving the top-tier model, which was released four years after the prototype was introduced. Musk introduced the Cybertruck as being capable of towing over 11,000 pounds (about 5 tons) and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds. It also offers a large load space measuring 6 feet in length and 4 feet in width.

The Cybertruck’s body, reportedly inspired by the movie “Blade Runner,” is made of a hard stainless steel alloy, claiming to be bulletproof. A video showed the truck withstanding multiple rounds with only dents remaining. Musk mentioned a previous demonstration where a metal ball cracked the glass, but tried again with Tesla’s chief designer Franz von Holzhausen throwing a baseball twice, which left the Cybertruck unscathed.

In October, Tesla announced that their third-quarter revenue increased by 8% compared to the same period last year, reaching $25.182 billion, and boasted in their report that the Cybertruck became the third best-selling electric vehicle in the U.S. for the quarter, following Model Y and Model 3, though they did not disclose specific sales figures for the Cybertruck. Additionally, Irvine police in California announced they were using the Cybertruck to support residents and community outreach and for drug abuse resistance education. Cybertruck made its debut in Korea at the “Auto Salon Week” held at KINTEX in Goyang in September, after being showcased for Asian promotion in China and Japan, and later exhibited at the “2024 Korea Future Mobility Expo” in Daegu.
