Seoul Metropolitan Opera Company to Hold “Opera Gala: Dr. Oh Eun-young’s Opera Counseling” on December 13
Dr. Oh Eun-young, renowned for her “Gemstone Counseling,” will offer her insights into characters from opera works. On November 24, the Seoul Metropolitan Opera Company announced that it will present the year-end special program “Opera Gala: Dr. Oh Eun-young’s Opera Counseling” on December 13 at the Sejong Center Grand Theater in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
The “Opera Gala,” which began in 2022, is a program where a well-known narrator makes opera more accessible to the audience. Following narrators like Shin Dong-yeob (2022), Jung Joon-ho and Shin Hyun-joon (2023), and Jun Hyun-moo (2024), psychiatrist Dr. Oh Eun-young will lead the fourth season as the narrator.
Dr. Oh is expected to help both opera enthusiasts and beginners comfortably immerse themselves in the works by exploring the complex emotions and relationships of opera characters through the concept of “counseling.” The program will cover works such as Verdi’s “La Traviata” and “Rigoletto,” Puccini’s “La Bohème” and “Gianni Schicchi,” Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore,” and Gounod’s “Romeo and Juliet.”
Top-level vocalists active on domestic and international stages will participate in the event. Soprano singers Park So-young, Oh Mi-sun, and Han Yewon, tenors Jung Ho-yoon, Kim Hyo-jong, and Jin Sung-won, along with baritones Kang Hyung-kyu and Gong Byung-woo, will perform arias from the operas. The music will be performed by the Korea Coop Orchestra under the direction of artistic director David Yi of the Gangnam Symphony Orchestra.
Director Park Hye-jin of the Seoul Metropolitan Opera Company said, “We hope that the collaboration of top-class vocalists active on domestic and international stages with the narration of Dr. Oh Eun-young will provide an opportunity for the audience to dive deeper into the stories and emotions within the operas. We expect this special time, where music meets counseling, to be a comforting and rewarding gift for oneself after a year’s hard work.”
