Director Park Chan-wook and other filmmakers petition for the acquittal of a documentary director indicted by the Western District Court.

Film director Park Chan-wook and other filmmakers have submitted a petition to the court, requesting an acquittal for a documentary director who was prosecuted due to a disturbance incident at the Western District Court.

The Korean Independent Film Association announced that they submitted a petition concerning director Jeong Yoon-seok, who was brought to trial after entering the scene during the disturbance incident.

The filmmakers stated that Director Jeong was documenting the rioters, not acting as a rioter himself, and urged that an artist’s actions to capture the truth should not be regarded as a crime.

The petition involved participation from over 2,700 individuals, including filmmakers like Director Park Chan-wook, Kim Sung-soo, Byeon Young-joo, and Jang Hang-jun, as well as citizens.
