Daegu Suseong District’s representative character ‘Ddooby’ becomes the protagonist of an original musical.

The character ‘Doobi,’ representing Suseong District in Daegu, will take the stage in Korea’s first original children’s musical utilizing the intellectual property (IP) of a local government, titled “Doobi and the Moonlight Knight Squad.”

This production goes beyond being a simple character performance and marks the starting point for building a story universe centered around ‘Doobi.’ It aligns with the branding strategy of Suseong District, recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a cultural city.

The premiere will be held at the Suseong Artpia Grand Theater until the 6th, and plans are in place for a national tour and global expansion. It has been selected as a special performance for the 19th Daegu International Musical Festival (DIMF), earning recognition for both its artistry and symbolism.

The artistic director and producer for the project is Director Oh Eun-seong, known for producing musicals such as “Miss Saigon” and “The Play.” The cast comprises 10 musical actors from Daegu, selected through auditions, including prominent Daegu-born actor Park Ji-hoon, who also supported the vocal coaching to enhance the cast’s live performance skills.

Kim Dae-kwon, the mayor of Suseong District, stated, “‘Doobi and the Moonlight Knight Squad’ is a representative content embodying Suseong’s vision as a cultural city. It signifies the first step towards bringing the region’s creative capabilities beyond the nation to the world.” He emphasized that Suseong District aims to advance as a center for culture and arts beyond a simple administrative region.

He added, “We will continue to develop new successful models of local-based creation through the expansion of content centered on Doobi.”
