Hello, this is Ko Eun-jae from Issue Weather.
Yesterday and today, we experienced the most intense “freezer cold wave” of this winter. The cold was so severe that everything froze as if it were put in a freezer, including the waves crashing against rocks and breakwaters.
In most areas like Seoul, we recorded the lowest temperatures of the winter today. Myeonon-ri in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon, was the coldest nationwide, with temperatures around minus 25 degrees Celsius. Even in the southern regions, a cold wave with temperatures around minus 10 degrees Celsius swept through.
You might be wondering if it will remain this cold over the weekend. Fortunately, the cold wave is expected to gradually lose strength, with the chilly winds easing a bit since this afternoon.
Tomorrow’s daytime temperature in Seoul will rise above the freezing point again. By Sunday, we expect temperatures to return to the levels typical for this time of year.
However, snow and rain will continue along the west coast and Jeju Island. Especially heavy snow will be concentrated in the southwest coast of Honam and the mountainous areas of Jeju until tomorrow morning.
There will be intermittent snow and rain continuing until Sunday. Nonetheless, both the snow and severe cold in the west coast will subside by then.
It has truly been a week of harsh weather. We hope you take the weekend to recharge your energy.
This has been Issue Weather.
