It’s already past early September, but the perceived temperatures in most regions are expected to reach around 33 degrees Celsius for a while, making it hot.

Heat wave alerts have been issued in areas such as Gokseong and Gurye in Jeollanam-do, Uiryeong and Jinju in Gyeongsangnam-do, as well as in parts of the capital area, Gangwon Province, Chungcheong Province, southern regions, and Jeju.

On Monday, the morning temperatures ranged from 21 to 26 degrees Celsius, while the daytime high is expected to be around 28 to 34 degrees Celsius.

Except for the East Sea coast where the east wind blows due to the high pressure moving from the north-eastern-northern sea, the perceived temperatures in most areas will reach around 33 degrees Celsius. From the 10th, it is forecasted that the perceived temperature will also reach around 33 degrees Celsius along the East Sea coast.

The current heat is due to the Tibetan high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere and the development of a high-pressure system on the surface. The Tibetan high-pressure system prevents cold air from the north, and under the influence of the high pressure, the weather remains clear and sunny, with strong sunlight and temperatures staying high.

The surrounding seas around the Korean Peninsula also have an insulating effect, with sea surface temperatures warmer than usual for September. The Korea Meteorological Administration predicts that the above-average temperatures will continue until the week after Chuseok.

According to the mid-range forecast, on the last day of the holiday on the 17th, the daytime high temperatures in key regions are expected to exceed 30 degrees Celsius. Showers are expected in areas where air currents converge, such as the western side of the Baekdudaegan mountain range and the western side of Jeju from day to evening, with 5-40 mm in Gwangju, Jeollanam-do, and Jeju, and 5-20 mm in other regions.

Strong gusty winds of around 55 km/h (15 m/s) are expected in Jeju in the afternoon. At the same time, strong winds and rough seas are expected in the southern part of the western sea, the southern part of the South Sea, and the Jeju seas.
