Christie’s Hong Kong auction offers 9 Korean works including Kim Hwan-ki and Lee Seong-ja.

(Seoul=Yonhap News) Christie’s, an art auction house, announced on the 19th that it will showcase 9 Korean artworks including Kim Hwan-ki’s ignition and Lee Seong-ja’s abstraction at the Evening and Day Auction to be held at The Henderson Building in Hong Kong on the 26th and 27th.

First, at the Evening Auction on the 26th, Kim Hwan-ki’s ‘9-ⅩⅡ-71 #216’, a green and blue front ignition painted in 1971 by artist Kim Hwan-ki, will be auctioned. The estimated price is approximately 77.5 billion to 112 billion Korean Won.

This piece was created in the same year as Kim’s ‘Space’ (05-IV-71 #200), which set a new record for the highest price for Korean contemporary art when it was auctioned for 15.3 billion Won in Hong Kong in 2019.

Also, Lee Seong-ja, a first-generation abstract artist in Korea, will auction ‘Memories of Hidden Trees’ with an estimated price of 800 million to 1.36 billion Won.

In May, at a Hong Kong auction, the artist’s ‘Shadowless Mountain’ sold for approximately 1.43 billion Won, setting a new record for the artist’s auction’s highest price.

Additionally, Yi Bae’s ‘From the Flames – Do 5’ with an estimated price of 170 million to 340 million Won will be featured in the Evening Auction.

On the 27th at the Day Auction, works by Lee Woo-hwan such as ‘Jo-eung’ (130 million to 200 million Won), ‘Dongpung’ (300 million to 470 million Won), and Yoon Hyeong-geun’s ‘Blue Ink’ (170 million to 340 million Won) will be introduced.

Among the overseas works, masterpieces with estimated prices of at least 30 billion Won including Claude Monet’s ‘Water Lilies’ and Vincent van Gogh’s ‘Moored Ship’ will also be auctioned, attracting attention.

This auction marks the celebration of Christie’s Hong Kong relocating its Asia-Pacific headquarters with a total of 144 art pieces worth approximately 178.5 billion Won set to be presented.
