195 billion won spent on ‘Buddhist Cultural Heritage Preservation Center’… Capable of investigating large Buddhist paintings,

A facility dedicated to researching and preserving Buddhist cultural heritage such as statues and paintings is set to open in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province.
The National Heritage Administration announced that the Buddhist Cultural Heritage Preservation Center will open on the 6th in collaboration with the Buddhist Cultural Heritage Research Institute.
Located in Yangpyeong County, the preservation center is a building consisting of two floors above ground and two floors underground.
Construction began in 2017 and was completed at the end of last year, with a total project cost of 19.5 billion won. Seventy percent of the funding was supported by the National Heritage Administration through lottery funds.
The preservation center will play a systematic role in researching and managing Buddhist cultural heritage.
It is equipped with an analysis room, storage facilities, and preservation treatment rooms, and it includes a large-scale Buddhist painting treatment room capable of investigating or preserving large Buddhist paintings over 10 meters high, such as ‘Gwaebul’ (掛佛).
The opening ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. today.
Choi Eung-cheon, the head of the National Heritage Administration, Jinwoo, the general director of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, and officials from the National Assembly and Gyeonggi Province are expected to attend the event to announce the opening of the preservation center and tour its facilities.
A representative from the National Heritage Administration stated, “We will strive to play a key role in fully preserving Buddhist cultural heritage, which has been the root of our traditional culture.”
