Taking place from April 9 to 12 at Chicago’s Navy Pier Festival Hall, EXPO CHICAGO is the largest art fair in the American Midwest and was acquired by the global art fair operator Frieze in 2023.

This event will feature 250 pieces from prominent Korean contemporary artists such as Lee Sang-min, Shim Moon-seop, Park Sun-ki, and Chae Sung-pil, with participation from galleries including Sun Gallery, Supportment Gallery, 021 Gallery, Keumsan Gallery, Gallery Grimson, and Gallery 41.

Ten galleries will participate in the “Galleries” section, which includes both booth exhibitions and special collaborative projects.

Duru Art Space and Gallery Hwain will showcase works in the “Profile” section, which operates as solo booths.

A talk program providing an overview of Korean contemporary art trends will also be held. Participants include Ji Yeon-soo, curator at the Art Institute of Chicago, Kim Ji-yeon, curator at Peabody Essex Museum, and Woo Hyun-su, associate director at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Ji Yeon-soo, the curator responsible for the overseas tour of the Lee Kun-hee collection at the Chicago Museum, will conduct a special docent (interpretation) program for VIPs invited by the Galleries Association of Korea.

Lee Sung-hoon, chairman of the Galleries Association of Korea, stated, “We plan to continue supporting the overseas market entry of member galleries through collaboration with the government and related institutions,” and added, “We will keep building on the experience and networks accumulated through the collaboration between KIAF Seoul and Frieze Seoul over the past four years to further cooperate with EXPO CHICAGO.”
