[My Daily = Reporter Kim Ji-woo] Actress Song Hye-kyo shared her experience of overcoming a slump and meeting ‘The Glory’.
On the 8th episode of tvN’s ‘You Quiz on the Block’, Song Hye-kyo appeared and shared a variety of stories.
During the show, Yoo Jae-suk mentioned, “You are rumored to have a wide network of acquaintances.” Song Hye-kyo responded with a laugh, “It’s because I’ve been working for a long time.” Yoo Jae-suk added, “It’s more because you take care of those around you,” mentioning Kim Hye-soo, Suzy, and Kang Min-kyung. Song Hye-kyo remarked, “They’re all women,” and continued, “I’m grateful that when I work on a project, so many from seniors to juniors support me. I’m very thankful.”
Song Hye-kyo, known for attending her acquaintances’ important events, said, “I try to repay the love given to me,” and mentioned, “I’ve known seniors like Kim Hye-soo, Song Yoon-ah, and Kim Hee-sun since I was young. They’ve always been there for me, and I tell my juniors, ‘If you contact me on your days off from shooting, I can always adjust for you.’ I try to be there for them comfortably, especially when their acting isn’t going well. After a few surprises, they said they wished for a boyfriend like me as their senior.”
Song Hye-kyo later talked about her slump, “Since my first successful project was a melodrama, I received many similar roles. Before ‘The Glory,’ there was a moment when I watched my own acting and found it boring. I thought viewers must find it really boring. My expressions weren’t varied, and I felt incompetent in acting, which made me feel depressed. It was embarrassing, and I even considered taking a break.”
She shared that as she was overcoming her acting slump and various rumors and started to love herself a little, she met ‘The Glory.’ Song Hye-kyo was personally approached by writer Kim Eun-sook, who she had worked with since ‘Descendants of the Sun.’ Song said, “It was a genre I wanted to try, and I was greedy for the character Moon Dong-eun. Even if some people dislike the person Song Hye-kyo, I think, at least as actress Song Hye-kyo, I want to act in a way that they could like. While performing intense scenes I’d never done before, I discovered new expressions within myself and found acting fun again. Even when it was tough, I couldn’t wait to get to the next shoot.”
She added, “I’ve been preparing little by little. Now that I’m in my 40s, I am outwardly distinct from younger actors. I began to think, ‘I really need to act well. It’s not the time when I can rely on my appearance alone anymore.'”
