[OSEN=Reporter Sun Mikyung] It has been reported that a well-known psychiatrist who also appears on TV had a patient die at a hospital where A is the head director, and A’s agency side remained silent.
A representative from psychiatrist A’s agency said to OSEN on the 29th, “As we only handle A’s broadcasting-related tasks, it’s difficult to verify details regarding his personal business.”
Earlier, on the 26th, SBS reported that a 33-year-old woman, B, who was hospitalized in a mental hospital in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province on May 27 for treatment of diet pill addiction involving the famous appetite suppressant Dieta-min, had died.
According to the report, B believed that the treatment program for diet pill addiction, which included narcotics, was effective and checked into the hospital.
Footage from the CCTV at the time of the incident showed B holding her swollen abdomen in a single room at the mental hospital, pleading to be let out. When B continued to knock on the door late into the night, nurses and caretakers administered medication to her and tied her to the bed.
After B lost consciousness and struggled to breathe with a nosebleed, she was untied after an hour, but no other measures were taken. Despite emergency treatment by the hospital staff after B lost consciousness, she ultimately died. The autopsy results indicated that the cause of death was presumed to be intestinal obstruction due to a pseudo-colonic volvulus.
However, the mental hospital claimed, “B was a chronic constipation patient, and her abdominal pain complaints were not continuous, making it difficult to suspect intestinal obstruction. The doctor on duty at the time of the incident was preparing to be called, and emergency response training, including CPR, had been conducted regularly. There was no problem with the response at that time.”
B’s family filed a lawsuit against the hospital’s head director and staff for violating medical laws, and it was reported that the police have begun investigating the situation. /seon@osen.co.kr
