Shinhwa’s Kim Dong-wan unexpectedly announces retirement from the entertainment industry → Criticism: “They only call easy old-timers”

[Sports Chosun Online] Reporter Kim Joon-seok – Kim Dong-wan, a member of the group Shinhwa, has expressed his discomfort regarding his appearances on variety shows.

On September 4th, Kim Dong-wan shared on his personal SNS, “I hope they stop calling me for variety shows. I have no confidence to be funny, and I don’t want to speak personal truths in front of an audience. Digging up the past only leaves scars on oneself. Can’t I just live quietly pretending to be happy and successful? I wish they’d just leave me alone.”

He further pleaded, “You should stop after I’ve used the schedule excuse three times. I’m sure it’s an order from above, but…”

Fans commented, “You’ll do well if you appear on variety shows,” to which Kim replied, “If I go, I squeeze every bit of myself and wonder what I’m doing, and end up drinking too much when I get home… it’s a torturous cycle,” he lamented.

While some fans expressed their desire to see him on broadcasts, Kim stated, “I want to do things like stage performances, dramas, or home shopping where results reflect the effort put in,” indicating his stance.

To a fan who said, “I guess there aren’t many people to cast,” he responded, “Bingo. That makes me even more reluctant given the current atmosphere.” He also remarked, “Opportunities should go to those who eagerly await them. Why do they ignore the waiting ones and only call the easy old-timers?”

However, regarding the possibility of ‘Shinhwa Broadcast Season 2’, he humorously added, “Of course, we should do it. The members will make it fun,” bringing a smile to fans.
