“Seungri’s close friend”, Darren Wang, arrested on attempted murder charges… Fall from grace for ‘Taiwan’s First Love’

Taiwan’s ‘First Love’, Darren Wang, has been arrested on charges of attempted murder, marking the end of his once celebrated image. According to local media like Liberty Times and TVBS, Wang was apprehended in relation to an incident that started in April last year.

While traveling from the Taiwan airport in a Tesla Uber, Wang got into a dispute with the driver, displeased with the condition of the pickup and the driving. Upon reaching his destination, Wang inadvertently left his belongings in the car and became frustrated not knowing how to open the Tesla door, resorting to banging on the window. This led to an argument with the driver involving offensive language from both parties.

Subsequently, Wang allegedly asked a wealthy acquaintance to assault the driver and related parties, resulting in the driver and others being hospitalized with serious injuries. The event came to light during a separate police investigation concerning accusations of Wang evading military service.

He was arrested on charges of evading military service by allegedly submitting false medical documents to fake a heart condition, but was released after paying a bail of 150,000 Taiwan dollars (approximately 650,000 KRW). During the investigation, police confiscated Wang’s phone, discovering evidence linking him to the assault order and obtaining a video of the driver being attacked.

Wang, who was supposed to start his military service on the 13th, now faces an uncertain future due to these charges.

Born in 1991, Wang debuted in 2008 as an advertisement model, rising to fame in 2015 with the film “Our Times” and earning the moniker ‘Taiwan’s First Love.’ He gained further popularity through roles in films such as “A Better Tomorrow 2018” and “Fall in Love at First Kiss.” In South Korea, he is notably recognized as a close friend of Seungri, a former Big Bang member ousted from the entertainment industry following the “Burning Sun Gate” scandal.
