In Brazil, SBS’s weekend drama is enjoying massive success, achieving its highest viewership rating of 9.7% by its second episode.
According to Shin Young-seon of Sports Hankook, the SBS Friday-Saturday drama is captivating both domestic and global audiences, experiencing a boom after just two episodes. The drama “Wooju Marry Me” (directed by Song Hyun-wook and Hwang In-hyuk, written by Lee Ha-na, produced by Studio S and Samhwa Networks) premiered on the 10th. It is a romantic comedy depicting a 90-day fake newlywed life between two individuals vying for a luxurious newlywed house prize. The chemistry between actors Choi Woo-shik (as Kim Woo-joo) and Jung So-min (as Yoo Merry) was highly anticipated before the broadcast, and they managed to engage viewers from the first episode with their “rom-com unbeatable combination” chemistry.
The first episode rated at a high of 7.0% (6.1% in the metropolitan area), and the second episode surpassed that with a high of 9.7% and 7.0% in the metropolitan area, achieving its highest ratings yet. It ranked first among all programs excluding daily dramas, standing out in the weekend drama competition.
The international response has been explosive. As of October 13th, according to global content ranking site FlixPatrol, “Wooju Marry Me” ranked second worldwide in the Disney+ TV show category. It took first place in Asian regions including Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, and made it into the TOP 10 in 18 South American countries, including Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, and Bolivia.
Comments on IMDb include praises such as “The chemistry between Choi Woo-shik and Jung So-min is amazing,” “Jung So-min’s acting is realistic and vivid,” and “The combination of the rom-com king and queen, with top-notch immersion.” Domestically on social media, comments like “The cactus scene is the best,” “Everything about the directing, colors, and pacing is perfect,” and “Choi Woo-shik fits his character perfectly” also indicate a positive reception.
Meanwhile, SBS’s “Wooju Marry Me” airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM.
