It has been reported that singer Lee Seung-hwan will take the stage at a rally in Yeouido.
On the 9th, during a live broadcast on Candlelight Action TV’s YouTube channel, Kim Ji-sun, co-representative of Seoul Candlelight Action, mentioned, “I found out on Facebook that singer Lee Seung-hwan donated over 12 million won to Candlelight Action. I was very surprised. So we immediately sent a Facebook message saying, ‘Please join us at the candlelight event. We would love to have a performance from you. We’d like to send back the money you donated as your performance fee.’ And he responded,” she reported.
Representative Kim Ji-sun announced, “We decided to have singer Lee Seung-hwan join us at the candlelight event this Friday. It’s his birthday that day. Lee Seung-hwan has promised to perform at the candlelight event on Friday.”
She continued, “He is a singer who has been singing alongside citizens since the Park Geun-hye candlelight protests. Lee Seung-hwan is remarkable for immediately canceling his year-end concert as soon as martial law was declared, the only singer I know of who did. He is sensitive to current events and always in tune with the candlelight movement and the public. Let’s give a warm round of applause to Lee Seung-hwan.”
As news of the performance spread, Lee Seung-hwan wrote on his Instagram on the same day, “Yeouido on Friday is not confirmed yet. I don’t need any guarantee, but there must be at least a minimum sound system that I can agree with, from my perspective. A sound enthusiast can make that kind of demand, right?”
Prior to this, Lee Seung-hwan announced on the same day that the annual event for leukemia patients by DPFAC members, called ‘Hwantan Day’ donation relay, has begun again this year. He participated, moved by everyone’s kind hearts, although he chose a different charity this time. He hoped for an impeachment to occur by Saturday and mentioned supporting the Korea Leukemia Child Foundation as usual, declining any gifts.
Additionally, on the 3rd, Lee Seung-hwan had canceled the scheduled ‘Like a Black and White Movie’ performance on the 4th and 5th in response to President Yoon Seok-yeol’s declaration of martial law, but he rescinded the cancellation after the martial law was lifted.
