MBC has issued a public apology more than a year after weathercaster Oh Yo-anna complained of workplace harassment and passed away.

On the morning of the 15th, MBC held a press conference and agreement signing ceremony at 10 AM at the Golden Mouse Hall on the first floor of the MBC New Building in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, with MBC President Ahn Hyung-joon and the bereaved family of the late Oh Yo-anna in attendance. During the press conference, MBC is expected to offer an official apology, confer an honorary employee ID to the deceased, and promise measures to prevent recurrence.

President Ahn Hyung-joon of MBC stated, “We wish for the repose of the late Oh Yo-anna, who entered eternal rest at a young age. I sincerely extend condolences and apologies to the bereaved, including her mother, who have endured unbearable sorrow for a long time. Today’s agreement represents MBC’s commitment to ensure such tragic incidents do not occur again,” he declared.

Hello. I am Ahn Hyung-joon, CEO and President of MBC.

First, I wish for the repose of the late Oh Yo-anna, who entered eternal rest at a young age.

I sincerely extend condolences and apologies to the bereaved family, including her mother, who have endured unbearable sorrow.

Today’s agreement also signifies MBC’s commitment to prevent such tragic incidents from happening again.

In April, MBC established the Coexistence Cooperation Office to create a dedicated channel for addressing complaints and conflicts of all personnel working at MBC, including freelancers, and we are conducting regular education to prevent workplace harassment and unfair treatment.

As a responsible public broadcasting company, Munhwa Broadcasting will continually strive to foster a culture of mutual respect and a better workplace.

Once again, I wish for the repose of the late Oh Yo-anna.
