Singer Lee Seung-hwan (60) has been accused of document forgery and use of forged documents. On March 3rd, he shared a photo of the complaint on his Instagram. According to the complaint in the photo, the Maryland Institute of Forensic Sciences accused Lee of forging and using official documents.
Previously, some netizens reported Lee Seung-hwan, who performed at a candlelight protest for President Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment in December last year, along with singer and actress IU, who participated in the pre-orders for the impeachment rally, to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). It was seen as an attempt to label them as anti-American and make U.S. entry procedures more stringent or block their ESTA visa waiver program.
Amidst these developments, on February 16, Lee Seung-hwan announced on his Instagram that he was in the U.S. for his nephew’s wedding. Some YouTubers claimed there were no photos from the wedding or with guests, alleging the photos were fake composites, asserting that Lee’s U.S. entry was a fabrication.
On February 18, a YouTuber posted a video titled “Seung-hwan, want to make a bet with me?” challenging him to prove his attendance at the wedding by providing photos taken at the airport or with family. Lee responded on February 19, accepting the bet on the condition of the YouTuber’s permanent YouTube ban and releasing documents showing his U.S. travel records. Lee stated, “I never said I went to the moon. If you don’t believe it after reviewing the travel documents, don’t hide behind anonymity and scribble, but rather file a complaint for document forgery.”
