“Just Leave Me Alone”… Kim Dong-wan Announces He Will Not Appear on Variety Shows

Kim Dong-wan, a member of the boy group Shinhwa, has opened up about his struggles with appearing on variety shows. On September 4th, Kim Dong-wan posted on his personal social media, “I wish they would stop asking me to do variety shows. I have no confidence in being funny, and I don’t want to talk about real stories in front of the public. Bringing up the past only leaves scars on myself. Can’t I just live quietly, pretending to be happy and successful? I just want to be left alone.”

He further expressed, “I’ve already used the schedule excuse about three times, please stop asking. I know it’s probably orders from above.”

However, fans seem eager to see more of Kim Dong-wan in variety shows. In response to a fan who asked, “What genre of show do you want to appear on? Just seeing you on TV or YouTube makes some people happy and joyful. Don’t stress too much!” he confidently said, “I prefer things like stage performances, dramas, and home shopping—where the results match the effort put in!”

Kim Dong-wan continued to speak candidly. To a fan worried about the sensational editing and story-seeking demands of current variety shows, he stated, “It seems like they now want themes of depression, poverty, loss, and even pornography. Maybe it’s because of the current situation.”

Additionally, when someone commented, “There must not be anyone worth scouting,” he replied, “Bingo. That’s evident, which makes me less inclined to participate given the current atmosphere.” To a remark about opportunities hopefully going to those eagerly waiting, he expressed frustration saying, “Exactly, why do they ignore those waiting and only ask easy target oldies like us?”

Finally, when asked about the possibility of a second season of “Shinhwa Broadcast,” he cheerfully responded, “Of course, I’d do it. The members will make it funny!” bringing a smile to Shinhwa fans.
