“JK Kim Dong-wook, who expressed support for Yoon, had his Daegu performance canceled: ‘Canceled due to inciting individuals’ threatening complaints'”

Korean-Canadian singer JK Kim Dong-wook, who expressed opposition to the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol, announced that his scheduled performance in Daegu had been canceled for “safety reasons.” On the 7th, JK Kim Dong-wook shared a lengthy post saying, “I bring unfortunate news at the start of the year.” He revealed, “The performance scheduled for January 25th at the Daegu Seogu Cultural Center has been canceled because of external complaints against my appearance, citing safety concerns.”

He continued, “The cancellation resulted from baseless agitation by a few outsiders who threatened protests if the performance proceeded, not from the complaints of attendees.” He expressed disappointment, noting that it had been years since his last performance in Daegu, and he had been rehearsing duets a week prior. “I hope this post prevents future instances where the opinions of a few agitators can overthrow the majority’s wishes, which is not a contractual breach,” he wrote.

Addressing his fans, JK Kim Dong-wook apologized, saying, “I sincerely apologize to the fans who planned to attend that day.” Earlier, JK Kim Dong-wook showed his support for President Yoon through social media. On January 5th, he wrote “Approval rating surpasses 40%” with a Korean flag emoji, expressing his excitement by saying, “This is not the will of the heavens but the desire of people longing for liberal democracy.”

On January 3rd, referring to the efforts to protect the president, he posted, “Protecting the president is the way to protect the country! What is the Public Official’s Crime Investigation?” On that day, an attempt by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials to execute an arrest warrant for President Yoon faced a standoff with the Presidential Security Service, leading to a withdrawal at around 1:30 PM. The warrant resulted from President Yoon’s noncompliance with three summonses, prompting the court to issue an arrest warrant on December 30. President Yoon is accused of unconstitutional and unlawful actions, including declaring a December 3 martial law, mobilizing military and police for insurgency (charges of chief insurrection and abuse of authority).
