Director Jang Hang-jun and actor Yoo Hae-jin had a serious argument on set when Yoo criticized Jang for making the editing too easy. Jang humorously noted that it might have been the first time in film history that an actor nagged a director to do better with editing. However, Jang later admitted that Yoo’s comments were correct, bringing about laughter from the audience.
Their conversation took place during an appearance on MBC’s ‘Son Seok-hee’s Questions’, where producer Lim Eun-jung was unpredictably called on stage. The two film figures shared behind-the-scenes stories, maintaining a jovial mood throughout the interview.
Yoo Hae-jin mentioned that usually, he prefers to forget films quickly after completion to focus on new projects. Yet, for ‘The Man Living with the King’, he found it difficult to move on, reflecting on how deeply he was involved in the film. Director Jang praised Yoo, saying that Yoo’s commitment was the driving force behind the film’s creation.
Lim, who appeared on her first broadcast interview, shared her persistent belief in Jang as the only director who could make this film. Despite previously quitting her job to enter the film industry, she revealed the risks involved, mentioning, “If the film didn’t break even, there was no plan B.” Director Jang acknowledged this unique risk-taking, saying he had never met a producer who approached a project so bare-handed.
‘Son Seok-hee’s Questions’ and ‘The Man Living with the King’ reached this celebratory interaction just as the film was advancing towards 14 million viewers, with Son noting the directors’ and actors’ cautious yet eager expressions as they shared their success. The episode featuring the main figures of ‘The Man Living with the King’ is set to air on March 18th at 9 PM.
