G-Dragon Addresses ‘Strange Behavior’ That Became Evidence in ‘Drug Allegations’: “Can’t Express It”

[Sports Chosun’s Baek Ji-eun Reporter] G-Dragon from the group Big Bang has spoken out about the “drug false accusation” incident.

G-Dragon appeared as a guest on MBC’s “Son Seok-hee’s Questions 3” which aired on the 5th.

On the show, G-Dragon directly mentioned the 2023 incident where he was investigated by police on suspicion of drug use, saying, “I was involved in an incident a year before releasing ‘Power’ in 2024.”

A manager at an entertainment establishment, who was being investigated under arrest in relation to Lee Sun-kyun’s drug use allegations, reported G-Dragon’s alleged drug use to the police. Consequently, the police booked G-Dragon without detention on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. However, claiming his innocence, G-Dragon voluntarily underwent drug-related tests with the police. The simple reagent test and the detailed analysis from the National Forensic Service both came back negative, leading to a final acquittal for G-Dragon.

G-Dragon shared his feelings about the ordeal, stating, “Even as a victim, I didn’t feel the desire to lament my situation publicly. But things got out of control. I felt both hollow and empty. I pondered whether I should continue with my comeback or take a longer break, maybe even retire and live as an ordinary person. I shouldn’t feel this way, and I should be relieved it’s over, but I questioned for months whether it really passed or if I escaped it somehow.”

He further explained, “Ultimately, the only way I could express myself was through music. The experience led me to write the song ‘Power.’ I hoped there wouldn’t be more cases like this. Among various messages in ‘Power,’ one was a satire of the media using my strength.”

G-Dragon also addressed the unique gestures that were cited as evidence of his “drug false accusation.” Some netizens claimed that his inability to keep his body still and strange movements were proof of drug use.

Son Seok-hee commented, “Your way of speaking feels like a comprehensive art form. Each gesture seems like a dance, and every expression tries to convey your thoughts.” In response, G-Dragon explained, “I am myself, so I can’t see it as strange. I’m like this all the time. When asked to sit still and talk, I find it very uncomfortable. If (my hands and feet) were tied, there would be no need for tape. I wouldn’t be able to speak. There’s so much more I want to express than what can be said only with my mouth.”
